Lucky me = lucky you (a giveaway with Sew Mama Sew)

I think I need to buy a ticket to Vegas. My luck has been fantastic lately! I often enter giveaways and had never won anything. Then, these past few weeks...I have won FOUR (4!!!!) times! I am going to take a minute here to brag a bit......envy alert! (edit- just found out today I won AGAIN! Whoo hooo! Number 5! I need to get a lotto ticket!)

Prize #1- this gorgeous vintage fabric rainbow dress that made The Middle Child squeal with delight, from The Modern Marigold on Etsy, which was a giveaway from Jess at Craftiness is Not Optional:

Prize #2- the fun and festive Oh Christmas Tree pattern by Fresh Poppy Design, which I won when I linked up at Amylouwho for the 100 Quilts for Christmas charity drive.
Prize #3- this may come in handy for the above quilt...a charm pack of Figgy Pudding from Kelli at Kelli's Pieces in celebration of her big wedding day!

Prize #4- some beautiful brown and pink ribbon from Amy at Diary of a Quilter! And today I just found out I won some gorgeous scraps from Elizabeth at Giddy For Paisley. How fun are these little birdies? You can check out the cool bag she made with them here.

So, when I heard that Sew Mama Sew was hosting a Giveaway Day, I thought that would be the perfect way to give back to the Giveaway Karma Gods!!

Here is the giveaway:

1. I have a stack of soft, fuzzy, gorgeous Anna Maria Horner Folksy flannels for ya. Includes 1/3 yard cuts of the 8 prints shown, for a total of almost 3 yards of fabric. Perfect for cuddling over the cold winter! 2. The second part of this giveaway is a charitable donation. I think during this holiday season we all are feeling pretty fortunate about how we live, and all that we have. So, for the winner, I will make a $50(CAN) donation to the charity of your choice. Must be a charity where I am able to donate online, please, to avoid the potential hassle of international cheques.

To enter:

Leave a comment saying what charity you would choose if you won and why- I would love to learn more about the causes that are meaningful to you! Or, tell me something that you are thankful for this holiday season. No need to be a follower, but since I am thankful for my faithful friends, if you are a follower, leave a second comment saying so and you get a second entry.

Giveaway closes at 9 p.m. central standard time on Friday, December 17 and is open to local and international friends. Good luck everyone!

  1. Love both your giveaways. Such a cool idea. I love flannel and have been dying to get my hands on some of the Folksy Flannel. Charities near and dear to my heart are any dealing with cancer as we have sadly dealt with much of it in my family. That and Autism. My nephew is high functioning Autistic and such a sweet kid.

  2. What a great and generous giveaway!! I would probably choose St. Jude Childrens' Research Hospital http://www.stjude.org/stjude/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=f87d4c2a71fca210VgnVCM1000001e0215acRCRD. A local radio station raises money for them each year and I drive around in tears listening to the stories.

  3. I love that flannel. For the charity I would choose my old employer. I worked for a non-profit agency that provided various services to families including classes, therapy, and support for grandparents raising their grandchildren.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I would choose Habitat for Humanity. The enormity of giving a house to a family in need just touches me deeply - it's really a life changing gift to every family.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I would choose Autism Speaks for my charity. I am a teacher and many of the kids I teach have autism, as well as a dear friend of ours.

  6. After much thought I'd have to say I'd go with Give Kids The World (GKTW http://www.gktw.org/). Which is a place that hosts Make-A-Wish kids on their Disney trips. My niece who is now 4 has been fighting cancer for three years. She got her Disney wish a year ago and GKTW was the most magical place. I don't think they get nearly the recognition they should for all that they do. I thank Amy who posted above for saying she'd donate to St. Jude's I donate there all the time - our only hope is a cure, lets find one soon!

  7. I would choose this organization: http://www.genocideintervention.net/

because I helped start it and they do absolutely wonderful work.

    ReplyDelete
  8. The charity I would choose is Alley Cat Allies. This is an organizaton for the humane treatment of feral cats. They have a great trap and release program so the quit reproducing. I love kitties and have four myself. Thanks for the chance!

  9. Great giveaways! My chosen charity would be the National Down Syndrome Society because the abortion rate for down syndrome babies (90%) breaks my heart.

  11. Seriously, do you have the lottery in Canada? If you do, buy a ticket! Talk about luck :) And wow, great giveaway Kristie! I would love to have some Folksy Flannel!

Personally, the charity that's nearest to my heart is the American Cancer Society. My father died of cancer seven years ago and has missed some really big parts of my life, and having worked at a cancer center prior to my mommy career and having met so many cancer patients, ACS is a charity that means a lot to me.

  12. It's sweet of you to "share the karma" - I would pick Childhood Cancer to receive a donation. There was a little boy in our neighborhood that had cancer in his ear and went through a lot. They guided us to the web site, and all that was going on with children he had chemo with.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I am a Follower in Google Connect, but read thru the GReader.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'd choose UNAIDS to help with children that are orphaned due to their parents dying from AIDS.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I would choose coats for kids. There are so many babies (of all ages) without coats. As a very blessed mother of 2, it breaks my heart to witness this.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Oh man I would DIE for those flannels.

I'd choose the YWCA. They do great things for battered women. As someone who has been in an emotionally abusive relationship, I appreciate how they're helping some women get out of the horrible situations that they are in.

    ReplyDelete
  17. ****I am also a follower! Love your blog & thanks so much for the help with 'the Mckinley quilt'. I am currently attempting it & can't wait to share the finished quilt with you! Hope you pick me!!!;)

  25. Since I run two orphanages in Sri Lanka I would appreciate you giving the money to something connected with children. Anything to do with children please.

Thank you for sharing such pretty things in the giveaway.

    Merry Christmas.

  38. I would love to win a charitable donation to The Wiregrass Children's Home. It is a local home for abused and abandoned children. They have a great network of foster parents and councilors and I have seen first hand the love they give to children in need. http://wiregrasschildrenshome.com/Home.html

  41. There are lots of great charities out there doing great work. My favorite one is Hearts with Haiti (www.heartswithhaiti.org). I personally have spent time in Haiti working with them and they are the best thing that has happened to Haiti and have been doing great work for over 25 years now.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Les Bourges Hospice because it is the only hospice for the terminally ill on our island and is in the process of a major fund-raising drive to rebuild the previously too small building. It is solely funded by donations and if there was no hospice here, people (and their loved ones) would have to get on a plane to the mainland and be far away from home.
Their website is:http://www.lesbourgshospice.org.gg/ and donations can be made here: http://www.justgiving.com/lesbourgs/Donate

    Great giveaway btw!

    ReplyDelete
  43. What a great, thoughtful giveaway. The charity I'd choose is the Alzheimer's Association, in honor of my mom, who was an amazing quilter who lost her battle with this horrible disease 2 Christmases ago. I quilt now in her memory.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'd love to win the flannels (of course!) but would absolutely love to win a donation to The Ottawa Mission. Thanks for the chance!

    ReplyDelete
  45. My charity of choice is the Cambridge and District Humane Society (in Ontario.) Both of my kitties came from there and they are both wonderful. Plus, it's a smaller shelter where a small amount of money can make a huge difference. This is a really great idea for a giveaway -- thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  46. thanks for the giveaway! i love amh fabrics.

the donation is a great idea. i'd pick kentucky refugee ministries. there's a lot that goes into helping refugees get settled in a new city, and krm does a great job. i've volunteered with them in the past and met some amazing people.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I like to donate to a NYC-based charity called Citiharvest, which picks up food that would otherwise go to waste--foods from restaurants, bakeries, grocers, and large parties, etc. -- and distributes to organizations that serve the hungry. Citiharvest stretches your dollars very far to help people in great need.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I would have to say that my favorite charity is the Parish Kitchen in Covington, KY. They feed a hot meal to anyone who is hungry each day at lunchtime. The people who work at the Kitchen treat their guests with compassion, respect and kindness.
My kids just collected money to purchase blankets & toothpaste for the Kitchen to distribute to the guests.

    ReplyDelete
  49. What a great idea for a giveaway! I am a volunteer fire fighter and my brigade is run just by volunteers, so that was my first thought, but you can't donate online, so my next thought would be World Vision.

    ReplyDelete
  50. What an amazing giveaway. I would choose doctors without borders, who provide medical aid to all who need regardless of religion, gender or class.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I am most thankful for a warm home & my family at christmas time!

    ReplyDelete
  52. What a beautiful giveaway!

My first choice charity (that also has online donations) is Camp David of the Ozarks. It's a Christian camp in rural Missouri where children of prisoners get to spend a week just being kids. For a lot of them, it's a rare chance to be completely loved, accepted, and listened to.

I worked there one summer a few years ago, and it was probably the most challenging experience of my life, but for some of the children it was obvious what a difference just the one week was going to make for the rest of their lives, and that made it worth it.

    ReplyDelete
  53. What a beautiful idea for the charity <3
I'd choose https://www.pkufoundation.com/ (the PKU Foundation). Its a genetic disorder that children are born with (the heel prick test they do an all babies tests for it) and its not a common thing. However, my nephew has it and its financially crippling. Any help to families with this disorder is a god send. These children cannot eat protein and they have to consume a very $$$ formula as their source of "milk" for the rest of their lives. I could go on and on but it's just really important and close to home for me. <3

Thanks for a great giveaway!! Happy holidays to you and yours. xox

  54. Bother. Sorry I didn't finish my first comment. I am so thankful for my little girls and I'd probably choose Compassion Canada as my charity because I love what it does for children around the world.

And I'm a follower, so I guess this one is my 'follower' comment.

    Those are gorgeous fabrics!

  55. What a great idea! Picking a charity is easy for me...my grandfather passed away from Alzheimers complications just before my first child was born. ALZ would definitely get my $!

    And that fabric is delish!

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  58. This is such a wonderful giveaway, thank you so much for your generosity.

If I were lucky enough to win, I'd love for you to donate to your local animal shelter. Winter is a tough time for abandoned and neglected animals, and sadly animals shelters take in an increased amount of abandoned pets after Christmas and are thus in need of extra support come the holiday season.

  59. gorgeous fabric and what an amazingly kind, thoughtful prize. My chosen charity would be anything related to Cervical Cancer or giving cancer care to sufferers. I had Cervical cancer a few years ago but I was lucky and they caught it early. I wish there were a cure or just more awareness. Any charity to do with cervical cancer/cancer care would suit me and it doesn't matter which country it's in as once there's a cure, there's a cure!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I love flannel. That would be a wonderful prize to win! There are so many charities but I think the one I would choose is WWF. My children love animals and so do I.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I would donate to the M.S. society. We have quite a few family members afflicted by this horrible disease. I am thankful for my health, family and friends, and for the new baby in my belly! :)

  65. That is such a cool idea! I'd chose Bird Studies Canada as my charity. I'm a wildlife ecologist by training (so I'm slightly biased) and I find that frequently the smaller charities get overlooked for the "big ticket" charities. BSC does a lot of really excellent work in Canada and in international partnership in conservation and research. Thanks for the awesome giveaway since everyone wins!

What an amazing giveaway, those flannels are amazing!

  70. First, the fabric is beautiful. Thanks for your generosity, and congrats on the lovely prizes you won for yourself!

I'd love to donate to www.heifer.org in behalf of my husband. It is one of his favorite charities, because it gives women (with incredibly meager incomes) across the world a chance to begin their own businesses.

Thanks for the chance to win.

  71. I am thankful this Christmas that my husband has a steady job and we have a warm house to sleep in. So many are struggling with the most basic things right now. I read in our local paper that the homeless population in our (small) city has almost doubled in the last 2 years, so I'd chose our local homeless shelter, The Cornerstone Rescue Mission, for your donation. They really need the funds right now.

  72. First of all, thank you for this generous giveaway. It is wonderful of you to think of the many needy charities during this time of year. I would suggest the National Association for Down Syndrome. My son has Down syndrome, so it is a charity that is close to my heart!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Thanks for the giveaway! I would donate to Samaritan's Purse, our family loves participating every year and believe in their mission.

  75. My husband and I went to south Louisiana (we live in Arkansas) last summer and volunteered for four months (yes, four months!) at UMCOR Sager Brown. It was an incredible place where thousands and thousands of health kits, school kits, baby layettes and cleaning buckets were shipped to The Sudan, Afghanistan, Kyrgystan, etc. It is the United Methodist Committee on Relief's main shipping depot for disasters. I'd love for them to get this donation. blessings, marlene

    ReplyDelete
  76. What a wonderful giveway! I am most thankful for my family and loved ones. I think the charity I would choose is the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, which assists parents adopting children in foster care. Thanks for the chance!

    ReplyDelete
  77. I'm a new follower - love your blog title and your tutorials!

    ReplyDelete
  78. How generous of you! The Fetal Hope Foundation is dear to my heart (fetalhope.org) because we carried full term our daughter who had a fatal birth defect and said goodbye when we said hello in Oct. Carrying a child with a scary diagnosis to term is a very hard decision, but a huge blessing as well.

    ReplyDelete
  79. My charity of choice would be Kiva. I truly believe in empowerment through microfinancing! Thanks for the giveaway :)

    ReplyDelete
  80. I would donate it to CRWRF to held kids in Kenya. They teach Bible lessons and help with feeding and housing.
    Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  81. I would choose to donate to the LDS Church's Humanitarian Fund. They respond to needs all over the world on a continual basis and are usually among the first to do so in cases of major disasters -- food, clothing, reconstruction, clean-up, medical. You name it, they do it.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Hey, I'm giving away Folksy Flannel too! How funny! : )

The charitable donation is SO generous of you ... what a great gift this holiday season. My charity choice would be Heartline Ministries, which is the beneficiary of Tracey Jay's new charity Etsy store, Quilt Hope In. Go to http://allthingshendrick.blogspot.com/2010/12/youre-invited.html to learn more about this wonderful organization. They're doing some really great work in Haiti.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I would donate to Heifer international. My whole family loves the idea of giving a hand up instead of a hand out and it is a charity that my kids understand (and think is really cool - my 4 year old and I love the baby chicks).
Beautiful fabrics. Thanks for such a great giveaway - especially the charity part.

    ReplyDelete
  84. What a wonderful idea for a giveaway... I am so touched & love it! My very favorite charitable org. is Heifer International. They do amazing things with food-producing animals to give people resources to become self-sufficient. I've "given" donations to Heifer as Christmas presents for people who are hard to shop for - like old people, who don't really want new toys so much. :) Thanks for bragging about my dress, btw - at first I thought you were re-giving it away, and I just about had a freak-out! Silly me. Glad to cause some happy squeals. :)

  85. I would donate to St. Jude, I'm a nurse and have worked with sick children before, breaks my heart.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Wow, you are so generous...what a thoughtful thing to have a donation to a charity as part of your giveaway! I would choose Childrens' Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I always give to Union Gospel Mission. With two brothers with mental health issues, I'm painfully aware of just how close they are to living on the streets (if not for two healthy parents who are able to look out for them), and my heart goes out to the men, women, and children who are homeless in our country.

Thank you for a great giveaway, and for inspiring us all to pause in this crazy holiday season to consider what is most important - living lives in which we care.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Great giveaway. I have a friend who is starting crafting for Haiti children and I would love to donate the money for that, or towards goods to be sold in the shop. There is an Etsy shop that she opened and plans to get people to donate hand made items to sell and all proceeds go to that charity. I would love for it to go there somehow...either by donation of supplies or directly to the source. either way.

  91. I think it must be the air of luck in Winnipeg. I've won three giveaways in the past few weeks as well :)

My favourite charity is the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Mostly because I was born with a heart defect and have a pacemaker. But also because I know of so many people that are suffering from or know someone suffering from heart disease. So that is definitely the charity I'd choose.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I would choose

    https://www.reddoorshelter.ca/gifts-to-empower/gift.php

I have two friends that ended up in shelters leaving abusive relationships, and quite often they tell me they don't know what they would have done if there weren't these places to go to.

  103. Love the idea of this giveaway!
This year I ran my first 10K in memory of a school mate of my son who died from a brain tumour at the age of 6 last summer. We ran to raise money for The Kieran Mess Foundation which is a small charity that helps children with brain tumours and their familys. I know they'd really appreciate a donation as times are so hard in the current financial climate.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I am thankful that my husband and I both have secure jobs, and that we have a nice, warm house to go home to. We don't want for anything, like some people. That being said, if I won the giveaway, I'd want the money to go to a local homeless shelter. This is such a difficult time of year for those who have no place to call home.

    ReplyDelete
  105. So generous of you! My personal cause is bone marrow donation, so I would ask for Marrow.org to recieve the funds. It's an amazing renewable form of saving a person's life, and there is this stigma around it... I don't understand why!

  110. what a fantastic idea! My children and I look forward to giving to Gospel For Asia every year. The kids save up money to buy a pair of chickens or a goat, or winter coats, etc, for a family in need. I love it that they are giving an actual means of income for these families. :)

  111. What a great giveaway! I would support "The March of Dimes"

    http://www.marchofdimes.com/giving/support_general.html

    For two reasons:
1.) Giving to prevent childhood diseases.. to allow a sick child to live a healthy life.

2.) They have funded research in my lab before so I'm very aware of how well the money is spent.

  113. What a great giveaway! I like the second part ever better than the first with gorgeous fabrics.
As charity I choose Koningin Wilhelmina Fonds Kankerbestrijding (kwf.nl), it's a charity that researches ways to cure cancer.

  114. I would donate to Heifer International http://www.heifer.org/site/c.edJRKQNiFiG/b.195980/?msource=kw633

In this season whence we give thanks, celebrate with great feasts our deities, and give with our hearts, it seems only fitting to give the gift of sustainability with the message of paying it forward.

If you aren't familiar with Heifer International, I highly recommend a visit to their site to view their amazing work. One of the ways in which they help is to give families in third world countries livestock that can reproduce and provide a sustainable food source. By receiving the gift of livestock, the recipients agree to give away the offspring to others in need in their community.

  115. Oh I adore those flannels. I just recently got some scraps of them and they are soooo lovely!

I'm so thankful for my miracle daughter! She was born almost exactly 1 year ago after years of heartache. This is a very special time of year forever now especially because of her!

  116. What pretty fabrics!

I would donate money to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation because their money goes towards fighting AIDS through research.

  118. This is absolutely my favorite giveaway I've seen. What an awesome gesture and reminder of what the season should be about! I'm a big fan of Children's Hunger Alliance, an organization that helps alleviate childhood hunger in my state. http://www.childrenshungeralliance.org/

  119. I'm now following you - I knew I would have to be a follower when I saw the yummy fabrics in your header, and I am certain I also have OCD. Great blog! :)

  120. I'd love to win and have you donate to Children's Hospital of WI. My DD had her heart surgery there, and my friend's son is getting his cancer treatments there. The staff is phenomenal.

  121. I would donate to Feeding America if I won. When I was much younger than I am now, I decided it would be a great idea to go to a foreign country with practically no money for an extended period of time. Needless to say, after my funds ran out; I was homeless and hungry. If I hadn't been taken in by a very kind couple, I don't know what I would have done. I will always remember their kindness, and I will always remember being hungry. I don't think anyone should ever experience that.

  122. Wow, love the idea. By far the best today.

I would have to nominate my current employer - North Penn Legal Services - for the donation. We provide civil legal services for the needy and elderly. We are there for those who are facing bankruptcy, eviction, utility shutoff, domestic violence issues, custody, etc. We have a large poverty population in the 20 counties we serve and as the Chief Financial Officer, I can tell you every penny we receive is appreciated.

Thanks for the giveaway and continued good luck!

  123. I would choose www.seedlings.org. They are a wonderful resource for Braille children's books. The cost of a Braille book far exceeds the cost of a print book and Seedlings never charges families of blind or visually impaired children the true price. It is only through donations that they are able to support our children. Now that my son is about to turn 21, we still order the books so that he can read his favorite stories to his nephew and nieces.
    Happy Holidays!

  124. What a great idea, I love that you are going to donate as well and give away. I would love to win, and if I had to nominate it would be the Starlight Foundation, who I worked for granting wished for years. They are an amazing charity and deserve and use every cent they get. Thanks again!

  130. This is my fave giveaway. Cure Autism Now Foundation is a great one. Autism is one of the top "diseases"(I hate that term but that's what it is classified under) that boys are diagnosed with and yet, at least in the US it is getting the least funding. My son has Autism - was fine until he was about 13 months old. Stopped talking, his eye contact stopped. It was horrible. As a mom I would love to know what caused it. Really. Not just what people want you to know.

That being said I'm so thankful for my family, for our home, my husbands job even if I complain about it, food for our tummies, heat, and God's love.

The donation I would choose would be Toys for Tots. The number of toys and donations they are receiving this year is substantially lower than past years. No child deserves a Christmas without something to open.

  138. This is a wonderful giveaway :) My charity of choice is CJ's thumbs up foundation (http://www.cjstuf.org/). Our dear friends' goddaughter died last winter after a year long struggle with brain cancer. CJ was a beautiful vibrant little girl who touched many lives in her short time on earth. Her parents are two of the most amazing people I've met. They have created a foundation to help support other families whose kids have chronic and life threatening illnesses.

  144. This is an amazing giveaway! Thank you for including not just great fabric but a donation to a charity.
I would want to choose a place called Emma House which is located here in Calgary. It was started by two police officers in the 90's who were placed outside an abortion clinic for protection and were horrified to learn that a lot of the women using the facility were there purely because they felt they didn't have another option. So they bought a house and hired a couple to move in as house parents. The home houses several pregnant women and new mothers at a time, teaches them life skills and helps them find affordable and safe housing for when they transition out of Emma House.
If for some reason you couldn't donate online, I would chose Pregnancy Care centre in Calgary because they also help to fund Emma House.

  145. Animals bring so much joy to our lives, so I would choose Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah. http://www.bestfriends.org/aboutus/ Right now every donation is being matched making it worth twice as much.

  153. What a wonderful and giving giveaway - I love it! I would definitely pick Compassional International as my charity of choice. We've been sponsoring kids for a while and this organization has such financial integrity but also are doing lots for these poor families and kids - you can really see the difference when there is a Compassion Int. Center in these areas! Praise the Lord!

  154. What a great thing you're doing! I would donate to the Salvation Army as they do give needy families holiday gifts and food!

My inlaws have a work in Malawi, Africa and they give food and clothes during the year, but also at Christmas to AIDS orphans and also widows. That is something that is near to my heart and something I work to give to all year round.

Thank you again for a chance to win! Blessings!
