Word of the Day

This Word of the Day is brought to you by my 4 year old, Last But Not Least.

DARNER SAUCE

definition (in her words): "When something is so covered in bad, it is like a sauce made of darn!"

Usually said as an exclamation following an Unfortunate Event, and accompanied by a sour looking face like this:

Example: When I dumped my white-and-Ruby drunkard's path blocks out on my kitchen counter to iron, not realizing I had spilled some tea there earlier in my morning rush that had not been wiped up, staining my fabrics. Darner sauce!!

Anyone know how to get tea stains out of white fabric??

  1. I don't know how to get tea stains out, but I may start using the phrase, "darner sauce." Adorable.

  2. No idea. I'm so organised that sort of thing would never happen to me ;-)

  3. Try the Tide stain remover gel pack things...they took *almost* all of the lipstick out of clothes that went through the dryer with a tube of lipstick one of my kids left in there. They work like a charm!

  4. Such a cute phrase. I might start using it. I have a not so nice word that I blurt out sometimes and this would be a good substitue.
    She is so precious.

  5. mmm, yes I have other words I might have used !! Google says: Mix a solution of three cups of white vinegar and one cup of water in a glass bowl. Add the tea-stained garment and allow to soak. Rub the stain lightly and rinse well in cold water. If the stain remains, pour salt granules in a little heap on the stain and rub between your fingers. Rinse well.

  6. Luke's favorite expletive is "ferganit." Kind of a cross between forget it and damn it.

I'm no help with tea stains, although I've had good luck using Oxiclean on all sorts of stains. Darner sauce indeed.

  8. That's so cute. And, a rather apt description of my husband's efforts in the kitchen!

  9. Sard wonder soap. I swear by it but maybe you cant get that there.

Otherwise I recommend a margarita and a good cry in corner somewhere. And then have another margarita.

Darner sauce indeed! Much nicer than hearing something else come out of a 4 year olds mouth. Cute too!

  10. I love it!! Not that you got tea on your gorgeous fabrics but the prase "darner sauce" is just priceless! I use liquid Tide with bleach as my every day detergent. It doubles as my pretreater and seems to get out everything! You could also try Fels~Naptha...it's a soap bar for treating laundry stains. I get mine at Wal-Mart in the laundry isle for about $1...awesome stuff! Good luck! Smiles~Beth

  11. My 3-year-old says "tartar sauce!" or "barnacles!" when something doesn't go his way.

  13. Yikes! I would go with a soak in oxyclean-water for a few days. Change the water after the first 24 hours, then just soak another two. Oh, and Cold water, so you don't set the stains. or just stain them all to match - ugh!
