WIP Wednesday

Yes,  this actually 3 posts in one week so far, and 3 link ups.  I am feeling sociable ;)

After my huge surge of productivity at retreat, I have basically sat on my arse and done nothing to progress the Christmas present crafting.  But yesterday, I had a day off work and opted to neglect all housework to get down to some business.

Time to do some dreaded basting!  I used my handy dandy 505 + dumbell method.

And had my trusty sidekick guard the batting.

Soon enough, I had basted my 3 quilt tops from retreat:

And then for no good reason whatsoever, I decided I needed to piece myself a Christmas table topper.  This shows how much I suck at time management.....clock is ticking on holiday gifts but I opt to start a new thing for me.  But I got inspired and couldn't help myself.

So this became this:

And in the wee hours of the night, here is what I ended up with.  I so love the result!

This finished up at 22" square, and has 185 pieces!  Inspiration was here, and decided to add neutral squares as the back drop after the fun I had making the sprout blocks for Tracey. It is going to be our coffee table topper over the holidays.  I am thinking I may cut it to be round instead of square?  And am thinking about quitting....suggestions???

See you all at WIP Wednesday!

  1. I would be so scared to cut into that lovely top. It looks fantastic!

  2. I'm having the same issue--short bursts of productivity followed by long stretches of sitting on my arse. It's becoming a problem, both for the productivity and the arse.

Anyway. I'm thinking I might take the day off tomorrow to try to get some stuff done. Or maybe I'll make something for myself. Wait...are you a bad influence?

  3. I totally relate to those late night bursts of productivity. I feel like I haven't been sewing much over the last week or two, except for an hour here and there where I sew my butt off and get more done than I usually do in a day. Maybe it's the craziness of the holidays?

I adore your star table topper. Positively drool-worthy. And true to my IG word, I totally pinned it :)

  4. Love the topper! And basting 3 quilts in one day...wow! You deserved some fun sewing time after that. :)
I have 3 stockings and 2 duffles to start (and finish) before Christmas. And all I really want to sew is my (yet to be started) tree skirt. Sigh...

  5. You are on a roll! That table topper is so adorable. A circle would be so cute! I may want to shamelessly copy you one of these days.

  6. Love your table topper! I feel like such a slacker, I have 3 quilts to finish for Christmas (ugh), but I keep starting new things. I guess I need to get busy.

  7. That circle of stars is really nice!

  8. It's so easy to get distracted by new, and therefore exciting, ideas, isn't it? Especially if they are relatively small projects and can be finished "quickly"!

  10. You crazy gal...getting all that basting done in one day.

Love the table topper. I'd leave it square myself.

  11. Oh I am so glad I am not the only one to ignore the real To Do list in favour of myself!

  12. Your wreath of stars is gorgeous! If I were you I'd work at night more often. Great work!

  13. LOVE IT!!! Whether you cut it in a circle or leave it, I'd quilt it in concentric circles using a seam guide for spacing. It's a great size to manage that on your domestic.

  14. I had a similar problem after our quilt guild retreat, but you recovered faster than I did! I love your table topper so much!!

  15. It is so lovely. Round or square both are great!

  16. I was going to suggest the same quilting as Krista. Round or square it's wonderful. Seeing the pic of your trusty sidekick - he has a twin on the west coast.

  17. That's a really nice table topper - I'm an absolute sucker for starting new projects before the old ones are complete, so I can sympathise!
