Eddie the Elephant

Ohhhhh. I love this guy.

I made this big guy for my son. So very cute and cuddly (both the elephant and the kid).

Made from Knitted Toy Tales by Laura Long, like the pig and kitty. But I confess this guy is my favorite so far!

I used some Vanna's Choice yarn in silver grey for his body, and did the fabric accents on his ears and feet with some Sherbet Pips scraps I had left over from my Pips quilt. I stitched it in with a lime green Perle 8 cotton thread, since red and green are my guy's favorite colors (well, ALSO blue, but hey...).

He and Eddie are already best friends and Eddie has been awarded a place of honour on his bed :-)

I THINK....I may just be ready to move on and try to knit a sweater. Once I finish up a few more quilty WIPs!

WIPs on this lovely Wednesday

Here are a few things I have cooking over at my place. I normally hate to have too much on the go, I prefer to see something through until it is finished, but lately I have been lacking some focus and have been actually enjoying having a bunch of things to work on at once! First on the list, a finished HST baby quilt top (and back), set to be basted, etc: (Pssst! Can you see the GRASS in the background of this photo?? It's yellow, but at least it isn't covered in snow any more!)
Fabric cut and ready to roll for my Rainy Days and Mondays Quilt for my youngest daughter's upcoming birthday. Also did a couple test blocks....am trying not to doubt myself and just go for it: I am working on an extra completely unnecessary simple quilt top with vintage sheets, just because it feels spring-y and makes me smile! Part way through knitting this sweet little elephant for my favorite boy: And I still haven't forgotten that I promised you a tute for this album cover. It's coming! So, that's what's up in my neck of the woods! Sharing with Lee over at Freshly Pieced.

Purrrrfect

With the piggy complete, Last But Not Least demanded a striped kitty from my new book.

She loved it, and promptly named her "Guinea Pig." Go figure....

Not to be left out, Big G has now put his order in as well....back to the needles I go!

This little piggy

I was at the library and came across this book:

Immediately, The Middle Child begged, pleaded, whined, "Mommyyyyyy?? Can you PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE knit me this cute pig???"

Big Gulp. Looked hard. But I checked out the book (in fact, I loved it so much I have since ordered a copy!). And I happened to have some pink yarn in my stash (when the heck did I start a yarn stash???). And here is what I made:

Sweet piggy tail (thanks, Kathy!):

A-DOR-able fabric details in the ears and on the feet:
And a very happy daughter:

It was actually quite simple. Honest! I am pretty certain I will be making 95% of the cuties in this book. It is so well written and photographed, I would recommend it to everyone!

Meet my new friends.....

Aren't these guys cute? I just love knitted stuffed toys. My daughter is permanently attached to her blabla kitty. I am certainly not proficient (or patient) enough for a knitting project of that caliber, so when I saw this tutorial I was so excited- you "cheat" and get the knit look by using gloves! Brilliant! I stocked up on gloves at the local dollar store (2 pairs for a buck) and away I went. Since my kids are all about frogs, I used the principles from the dog pattern and modified it to make froggies. Too cute!
