Newsworthy
I bought an ironing board.
This may seem like nothing special. I didn't make a cover for it or anything. The reason this is newsworthy is that I am 37 years old, and have never owned one.
It's true!
So what the heck to I use to press quilt seams, you ask? I have a mini sized table top one that I pull out when needed, and have been known to iron directly on our granite counter top. Let me tell you, it is an awkward experience, trying to keep my quilt top out of the sink full of dirty dishes!!
So, now I have a REAL ironing board. I have already informed my husband that this does not in any way change my policy on ironing shirts....ain't gonna happen ;)

Too funny that you haven't had an ironing board until now. You're gonna love it I'm sure. And I totally agree, I have mine set up permanently, but it's for quilting, not shirts.
That is awesome. I hate ironing. My husband refuses to share the same iron or ironing board with me because mine is always covered with fusible interfacing and fabric paint. :)
I have a big bad ironing board and I'd guess its from the 50's. I wouldn't trade it in for a new one unless it was as large and stable as this one. BTW, it only gets used for quilting too and occasionally some of my shirts or jackets. I also have a cute table top board and I have that set up on top of my fabric drawers.
Interesting spelling you've got going on that for 'seems' ;-)
Hey - that's the same ironing board as I have! Did you get it at Superstore?
I have an ironing policy at my house, too. I iron for sewing and quilting only, and I have one set of bedsheets that needs ironing. My husband irons a shirt for work every night before he goes to bed and rarely ever asks me to do it for him. Good boy!
Hehehehe! Thanks for the good chuckle. :D
Haha! We couldn't live without an ironing board. DH went to catholic school and requires that all of his button downs be nicely pressed (which he does himself). He's way too cheap to send his shirts to the cleaners!
Here's my weird secret: I'm 30, and i have never operated a lawn mower!
I promise not to be jealous when I hear about how fabulous ironing on a full sized board it!! ; )
Happy ironing!!
congratulations!
My husband and I have the same policy- nothing shall be worn that requires regular ironing.
Uh Oh... one more step toward being a domesticated sewist :)
Just kidding! I love my full ironing board and use it everyday. It really will become an essential part of your sewing tools. Once you start making pretty covers for it... then I'll start to worry. ;)
Looks like it's not just an ironing board...it's the "ultimate" ironing board. While I do let it pile up at times, I secretly like ironing (please don't tell my family!)
p.s. I hope my comment works this time!
Congrats on your first real ironing board and high five for setting your boundaries with the hubs;)
You make me giggle. I love my board. Its from the 60's and is that nasty avacado green. But it is sturdy and idiot(husband) proof. xoxoxo
Call me crazy, but I actually enjoy ironing. Maybe you'll like it more now that you have a grown up ironing board. ;)
That's so funny that you've never had one before! You're going to love it. I also use mine as a cutting table since we're short on space. :-)
I have that same board. It's nice and wide for pressing quilt tops. I, too, have a strict no-iron policy for clothing. I won't buy something that needs ironing or dry cleaning. Thank goodness my office is business casual.
Congrats on the purchase!
Whoa you get major grown up points for buying an ironing board! I haven't ever owned one either. I use a folded towel on top of my sewing table. lol. Someday I'll be all grown up and have an ironing board of my own!
